The logo for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, depicting the Olympic flame within a gold medal, was unveiled in host city Paris on Monday. The circular design with Paris 2024 in art deco style, also incorporates the lips and outline of Marianne, the personification of the French Republic since the revolution in 1789. 
21日，2024年奥运会和残奥会徽在主办城市巴黎揭晓，会徽主设计图案为奥运圣火在金牌中熊熊燃烧。这个圆形设计中还融入了玛丽亚娜女神的嘴唇和轮廓，"巴黎2024"的字样采用了艺术装饰风格。自1789年法国大革命以来，玛丽亚娜女神一直是法兰西共和国的化身。

For the first time in the history of the Games, the same logo will be used for the Olympics and the Paralympics. "I think that with this new logo, this symbol of Paris 2024, we are going to be the witness of a unifying and beautiful event," said Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris.
这将是奥运史上奥运会和残奥会首次使用相同会徽。巴黎市长安妮•伊达尔戈称："我认为有了这个新会徽，这个巴黎2024的标志，我们将见证一个团结美好的盛会。"

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday was defeated in a vote on his Brexit timetable. Lawmakers voted 308 to 322 to turn down his proposed rapid timetable for the Brexit bill. As a result, Johnson has to pause the withdrawal agreement bill. 
22日，英国首相约翰逊在关于脱欧时间表的投票中受挫。议会议员以308:322票否决了约翰逊提出的脱欧协议快速立法时间表，约翰逊不得不宣布脱欧草案由此暂停。

After the vote, the prime minister said: "I must express my disappointment that the House has again voted for delay rather than a timetable that would have guaranteed the UK would have been in a position to leave the EU on Oct 31 with a deal.

At a kickoff ceremony in Shanghai on Monday, Jiang Fan, president of Taobao and Tmall, said over 200,000 brands will be participating in the Nov 11 shopping extravaganza, with 1 million new products for sale and over 500 million users projected to join the mega shopping event.

Alibaba said seven brands broke the 100 million yuan threshold in the first 10 minutes of presales online. The company said it will recruit 400 new foreign brands for the campaign and debut 3,000 products exclusively on the platform.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on Tuesday announced that three scientists from China, the US and Ireland shared the 2019 UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences. 
22日，联合国教科文组织(UNESCO)公布2019年度UNESCO-赤道几内亚国际生命科学研究奖获奖名单，3名科学家获奖。

Chinese professor Tu Youyou, along with American doctor Cato Laurencin and Professor Kevin McGuigan from Ireland, won the fifth edition of the award following their "outstanding scientific research projects in the life sciences that have led to an improvement in the quality of human life." 
分别是中国的屠呦呦教授、美国的加图•洛朗森医生和爱尔兰的凯文•麦奎根教授。三人的获奖原因是他们"杰出的生命科学研究提高了人类生活质量"。今年是该奖项颁发的第五个年头。

Tu Youyou, laureate of the 2015 Nobel Prize for Medicine, "is recognized for her research into parasitic diseases. She discovered an entirely new anti-malarial treatment, artemisinin, which made possible the treatment of thousands of patients in China in the 1980s," UNESCO said in a press release. The awards ceremony will take place at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in February 2020.
