The joy box
Here is a simple idea that ideal for those times when somebody close to you is suffering.
Perhaps they have just lost a loved one， been diagnosed with a serious illness, shifted to a different area, or their marriage has broken down.Your heart reaches out to them, but you really don't know just what you can do or say to help.
A joy box can help.
The idea of a joy box comes from my elder sister jessica.Jessica knows pain and suffering first hand.Her husband had a serious illness, 2 of her sons died.One in the vietnam war the other in a car accident.She began collecting stories, pictures, cartoons, photos, postcards.Anything really that made her smile.When the gloomy struck she could pull out her collection of funny stuff, her joy box and it helped her through.
When a friend of mine just divorced her husband I showed my love and concern with phone calls and the dinner invitations. I knew that she was feeling terribly alone, but there were times when I just couldn't be there personally to give her a hug or to chat. I began to think of preparing a joy box.
I started off with a show box and covered it with a collage of pretty wrapping paper and pictures from magazines.Then it was time to fill it.Over the next week, or so I bought a pair of teddy socks, some hair clips, note paper, a fridge magnet and a lollipop. I also clipped out funny stories, photos or cartoons from magazines and pasted them on cardboard, backing to Make them better able to cope with wear and tear.I could also have added things like a recipes, poems, jokes, readers, word puzzles, children's drawings or a personal letter.
Finally, I tied the joy box with beautiful ribbon and sent it to her.
My friends put her joy box to use the very next day and pulled out the teddy socks which she wore to work. She said they really comforted her.
A couple of weeks later my friend sent me an EMAIL saying that she was extremely touched each time she delved for treasure in the joy box.
Love and giving doesn't always have to mean money.So what are you waiting for? showing your care--- not with a greeting card but with a joy box.
