Speak English Right - 1:3:17

Good morning.

Today, I’ll teach you three ways to answer a question if you feel you might know, but, you are not sure. These expressions are used in everyday English quite often. Learn them. They’ll make you sound more like a native English speaker. These can be used in everyday conversation, but, not in formal writing.

Words/Phrases

I suppose so

I guess so

I reckon so

Note: ‘I reckon so’ will be used more in the southern part of the USA. It is used like ‘I suppose’ or ‘I guess’ or even, ‘I think.’ If I used this phrase in New York, they’d know that I’m from the south.

Practice

I suppose that I will go to school today.

Will you go to school today? I suppose so.

Will you go to work today? I guess so.

Will it rain tomorrow? I think so.

I reckon it will rain tomorrow.

I guess it will rain tomorrow.

I think it might rain tomorrow.

I think I’ll sleep late tomorrow.

I guess she might sleep in tomorrow. (it means that she’ll sleep later)

Learn these and use them. Make sure that you use ‘I reckon’ only in the south of the USA. You’ll sound like a native speaker.

That’s all for today.

Goodbye for now.

I hope you have a wonderful day!
