But it happened that after walking for a long time through sand, and rocks, and snow, the little prince at last came upon a road.
但是，在走了很长时间穿过沙漠、岩石和雪地之后，小王子终于偶遇了一条大路。
And all roads lead to the abodes of men.
所有的大路都通往人的住所。
"Good morning," he said.
“早上好。”小王子说。
He was standing before a garden, all abloom with roses.
他站在一个花园前，花园里开满了玫瑰。
"Good morning," said the roses.
“早上好。”玫瑰花说道。
The little prince gazed at them.
小王子凝视着它们。
They all looked like his flower.
它们看着都像他的花。
"Who are you"? he demanded, thunderstruck.
“你们是谁？”小王子惊讶地询问道。
"We are roses". the roses said.
“我们是玫瑰花。”玫瑰们说。
And he was overcome with sadness.
他被悲伤压倒。
His flower had told him that she was the only one of her kind in all the universe.
他的花告诉过他，她是整个宇宙中独一无二的。
And here were five thousand of them, all alike, in one single garden!
可是，这里有五千朵，都一样，单在一座花园里！
"She would be very much annoyed," he said to himself, "if she should see that. . . she would cough most dreadfully, and she would pretend that she was dying, to avoid being laughed at.
“她肯定会很恼火，”小王子自言自语地说：“如果她看到那个，她会咳嗽得最厉害，而且她会假装她要死了，为了避免被嘲笑。
And I should be obliged to pretend that I was nursing her back to life -- for if I did not do that, to humble myself also, she would really allow herself to die.. ."
那么，我应该义不容辞地假装照顾她让她活过来，因为如果我不那样做的话，她为了使我难堪，她可能会真的死去……”
Then he went on with his reflections:
然后他继续他的感想：
"I thought that I was rich, with a flower that was unique in all the world; and all I had was a common rose.
“我还以为我很富有，拥有一朵独一无二的花，但我有的只是一朵普通的玫瑰。
A common rose, and three volcanoes that come up to my knees -- and one of them perhaps extinct forever. . . that doesn't make me a very great prince. .."
一朵普通的玫瑰，再加上三座只有我膝盖那么高的火山，而且其中一座还可能是永远熄灭了的，那不会使我成为一个了不起的王子……”
And he lay down in the grass and cried.
于是他躺在草丛中哭了起来。
