[Japan Reiterates Tokyo Olympics Will Be Held as Planned]
Japanese capital Tokyo today reported nearly 900 newly-added covid-19 confirmed cases, the second highest increase on record.
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga verified today that pharmaceutical company Pfizer has subscribed an application for the vaccine it developed, and has conducted two experiments in the country. The government will collect key clinical trial data for COVID-19 vaccine by next February to approve a vaccine as soon as possible. Suga also said he is determined to hold the postponed Tokyo Olympics by next summer as a symbol of global solidarity. Tokyo Olympic officials announced today that they have reached a "basic agreement" with all 68 domestic sponsors to extend their contracts into next year to support the postponed Games. According to the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic organizing committee, they have received requests for refunds for 21 percent of the Paralympic tickets, higher than the former refund rate of Olympic tickets, which was 18 percent. All the refunded tickets will be resold in the future.
