Romeo and Juliet
The Capulets and the Montagues were the richest and most powerful families in Verona. They had long been sworn enemies, and their hatred for each other was so deadly that it extended to the relatives, the followers and servants.
Whenever a Montague met a Capulet, or a Capulet saw a Montague, there were fierce words and sometimes even bloodshed.
One day Lord Capulet hosted a great dinner,, to which many fair ladies and many noble guests were invited. Everyone in Verona was invited, except for those from the house of Montague.
Although it was dangerous for a Montague to be seen there, Benvolio had persuaded his friend Romeo, the son of Lord Montague, to attend the dinner in a mask. Romeo only agreed to go because he was in love with one of the guests named Rosaline.
