Julielt hastened home after the ceremony and waited impatiently for the sun to fall, at which time Romeo promised to come and meet her in the orchard.
That same day, at about noon, Romeo's friends,Benvolio and Mercutio, were walking through the streets of Verona. They came across a party of the Capulets with the impetuous Tybalt at their head. Tybalt accused Mercutio bluntly of associating with Romeo, a Montague.
Mercutio, who had as much fire and youthful blood in him as Tybalt, replied sharply to this accusation. Soon the two men were engaged in a quarrel, when Romeo happened to walk by. Now the fierce Tybalt turned from Mercutio to Romeo and called him a villain. Romeo wished to avoid a quarrel with Tybalt because he was the kinsman of Juliet, and she loved him very much.
So he tried to reason with Tybalt, but Tybalt, who hated all Montagues as he hated hell, did not back down. At last he drew his weapon and Mercutio, who didn’t know about Romeo's secret motive for wanting peace with Tybalt, provoked
Tybalt to fight with him instead.
