Now, when a messenger came from Verona, Romeo thought surely it was to confirm some good news. But then he was told that his lady was dead, so he ordered horses to be got ready, for he determined that night to visit Verona and to see his lady in her tomb.
On his way to Verona, Romeo went to visit a poor apothecary, whose shop in Mantua he had lately passed. Romeo knew that he could get poison there. When Romeo offered him gold, the apothecary sold him a poison which, if swallowed, could kill a man with the strength of twenty men.
With this poison, Romeo set out for Verona to catch a last glimpse of his dear lady in her tomb. He intended to swallow the poison afterward and be buried by her side. He reached Verona at midnight and found the churchyard in which the ancient tomb of the Capulets was situated. Then all of a sudden, a voice shouted, "vile Montague!"
