Gathering Leaves

Spades take upleaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.
I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.
But the mountains I raise
Elude my embrace,
Flowing over myarms
And into my face.
I may load and unload
Again and again
Till I fill the whole shed,
And what have I then?
Next to nothing for weight,
And since they grew duller
From contact with earth,
Next to nothingfor color.
Next to nothing for use.
But a crop is acrop,
And who's to saywhere
The harvest shall stop?

装满落叶的口袋,

像小兔也像小鹿

我捧起一座小山,
却无法把它抱拢,
总流出我的臂弯,
总泻向我的面孔。
我可以装了又卸,
千遍、万遍重复,
直到填满了小屋,
可我又有了什么?
论分量聊胜于无,
由于接触过泥土,
一片片逐渐发乌,
论颜色聊胜于无。
论用处聊胜于无,
而收获总是收获,
又有谁能对我说,
收获该止于何处。
