“You＇re right.”said Antonio.“I once did risk my body for Bassanios sake.If it hadn＇t been for the young counselor to whom your husband gave the ring，I would now be dead.I would happily sign another bond to assure you that your husband will always be faithful to you."
“I accept your offer.”said Portia.“And please give him this ring and ask him to keep it better than his old one.＂
When Bassanio looked at this ring,he was surprised to see that it was the same one he had given away.Then Portia explained to him that she was the young counselor,and that Nerissa was her clerk. Bassanio realized that it was by the noble courage and wisdom of his wife that Portia welcomed Antonio once again. Then she gave him letters which by some chance had fallen into her hands.
The letters contained an account of Antonio's ships.His ships that were supposed to be lost were in fact safely arriving at the harbor with expensive merchandise soon.
So the tragic beginnings of this rich merchant’s story were all forgotten.The four lovers and Antonio lived happily in beautiful Italy for many,many years.
