the apple of one's eye
= a person, usually a child, who somebody loves very much
= 掌上明珠
【例句】
He has five kids, but his only daughter is clearly the apple of his eye.
the only daughter 独生女
the only son 独生子
the only child 独生子女
an apple polisher
= someone who tries to gain something, become popular etc by praising or helping someone else without being sincere
= 马屁精
【例句】
I'dstake out a little distance fromthat guy. He isan apple polisher, who will probably bea fair-weather friend.
stake out distance from... 与...保持距离
a fair-weather friend 只同甘不共苦的朋友
the apple doesn't fall far from the tree
= a father/mother and son/daughter are identical in their actions, behaviors, etc.
= 有其父（母），必有其子（女）【褒贬均可】
【例句】
Dad gets caught stealing in his teen years and then his son gets caught stealing as a teen.
The mother might look at the father and say, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
