下雨天开车,司机同志们都知道一个常识:要开雨刮器。
雨刮器的英文叫windshield wipers,简称wipers。Windshield是挡风玻璃,wipe是擦的意思。
比如,擦眼泪,wipe my tears。
今天和Bob出门,下雨天。
我看到他开了雨刮器,还开了大灯,第一反应就是:真是浪费电!
我下意识地说:
Honey, turn off the headlights!
Bob说:
No. Wipers on, lights on. That’s a law.
真的是法律规定的?我赶紧google了一下,果然找到了依据:
A new law taking effect on April 7, 2015, requires the use of headlights and taillights on motor vehicles during inclement weather and when windshield wipers are in use.
从2015年4月7号起,美国执行的一项新法律规定,在恶劣天气和使用雨刮器的时候,机动车辆的前灯和尾灯都要打开。
我记得刚来美国的时候学习交规并没有看到过这一条,所以也并没有在意。
节约用电的意识倒是深入我心。
在美国开车的时候,经常在大白天也看到路上的车都开着灯,还感叹美国人真浪费电!
现在才知道原来是自己孤陋寡闻啊!
