Good morning.
Today, I'll teach you two words that can be confused by Chinese English students. They look almost the same and are spoken nearly the same. However, they have very different meanings. You should learn these and know how to use them the right Way.
Words
Beside
Besides
As a prepositions, these two words have different meanings and can not be interchanged. Beside means "at the side of" or "close to." , "But should not be confused with the conjunction moreover, which will be discussed later.
Practice
The car is beside the house.
He could not move the car; besides, he does not know how to drive.
Besides the one candidate that was chosen, there were 15 others.
The boy could not read besides the fact that he could not speak.
The girl did not go on the trip; besides, there were too many students anyway.
The child went beside his mom through the park.
Besides not ever playing tennis before, the boy was not really very athletic.
Learn these because you will hear them in everyday English conversation. You'll know how to use them correctly, like a native English speaker.
