Good morning.

Today I’m going to teach you two words I’ve heard Chinese English learners confuse when speaking. Learn the difference between these. One way that you won’t sound like a native English speaker is when you use the wrong word at the wrong time. Learn these and you’ll use them right. You’ll have more confidence in your English speaking abilities.

Words

condemn

condone 

Condemn means “to express strong disapproval of.” Condone means “to pardon or overlook or support.”

Practice

She was condemned for betraying her own country. 

The government condoned her cruel acts. 

The girl felt condemned for not being kind.

The teacher condoned the actions of her student.

The prisoner was condemned to die for his crimes.

The parent condoned their child’s bad behavior.

The house was condemned because it was so bad. It had to be destroyed.

If you condone cheating by helping the cheaters, then, you are also a cheater.
