Good morning.
Today, I’ll teach you two more words that have similar meanings but are used differently in writing and speaking. One of them needs ‘helping words’ when you use it.
Words
gone
went
Gone is the past participle of go and should be used as a verb only with a helping word. Went is the past form of go and is never used with a helping verb.
Practice
Joe went to see his family in Miami.
Joe could have gone to see his family in Miami.
Betty has gone to the school.
Betty went to the school yesterday.
Yesterday, Betty went to the school.
Michael has already gone from his house.
Michael went to the grocery store.
Linda was gone by the time I got there.
Linda went to her job.
Learn these two words. Remember, ‘gone’ needs help (a helping word). Went doesn’t need one.
That’s all for today.
Goodbye for now.
I hope you have a wonderful day!
