Idedicated[1]the past 2 years to understanding how people achieve their dreams. When itcomes to dreams we have, it is striking[2] to see how big of an overlap[3] thatis between the dream we have and project that never happens. So today I’m hereto talk about 5 ways how not to follow your dreams.
1 Believe in overnight success.
Thetech guy built a mobile app and sold it very fast for a lot of money. If you goinvestigate[4] further, the guy has done 30 apps before and he has been workingon the topic for 20 years. So the overnight success is always the result ofeverything you’ve done in your life through that moment.
2Believe someone else has the answers for you
Constantly[5],people want to help out, but no one else has the perfect answers for your life,you need to make decisions by yourself
3. Decideto settle[6]when growth is guaranteed[7]
Whenyou’re growing towards a peak[8], you need to work harder than ever and findyourself another peak. There’s no time to settle down.
4. Believe the fault is someone else’s
If youhave dreams, it’s your responsibility to make them happen. And if you didn’t make them happen, it’s yourfault and no one else’s. Be responsible for your dreams.
5. Believe that the only things that matter are the dreamsthemselves
Lifeis never about the goals themselves. Life is about the journey. Achieving adream is a momentary sensation[9] with happiness all around, but your life is not.

dedicate oneself to sth. = be dedicated to sth.
She has dedicated herself to her work after a wonderful journey.
在一个美妙的旅行后,她全身心投入到工作中。
[2] striking ['straɪkɪŋ] adj.惊人的;
strike v. 敲击;
It is striking that the unemployment rate decreasesremarkably this year.

[3] overlap ['ovəlæp] n. 重叠;重复
There is some overlap between the two propose.

[4] investigate [ɪn'vɛstɪɡet] v.调查
investigation n.调查

[5] constantly ['kɑnstəntli] adv.不断地;时常地;
We must constantly keep clear in mind: be yourself.

[6] settle ['sɛtl] v.定居;
They settled in the countryside for the comfortable scenery.

[7] guarantee [,ɡærən'ti] v. 保证guarantee
A company must guarantee the product quality to build theirbrand.

That firm has reached its peak last year.

[9] sensation [sɛn'seʃən] n.感觉;感动
Listeningcan create a very pleasant sensation for both speakers.
