quite，pretty，rather和fairly的区别
我们可以用quite/pretty/rather/fairly加形容词或者副词，因此我们可以说：
It’s quite cold.
It’s pretty cold.
It’s rather cold.
It’s fairly cold.
quite/pretty/rather/fairly所表示的程度比“很…”very要弱，但是比“有点儿…”a little要强。
quite和pretty的意思相近，举个例子：
Jill lives quite near me,so we see each other pretty often.
吉尔住的离我挺近，因此我们常常见面。
pretty这个词常用于口语当中。
它俩用法上稍有点区别，quite要放在冠词a/an的前面，我们举两个例子比较一下：
Jill has quite a good job.
Jill has a pretty good job.
quite的用法更广泛：
我们可以说it's quite a surprise.（等于quite a big surprise）
我们还可以说quite a lot of...:
There’s quite a lot of people at the meeting.
quite加动词：
I quite like tennis,but it’s not my favorite sport.

rather的意思和quite和pretty相近，常用来表示否定的观点，例如：
The weather isn’t so good. It’s rather cloudy.
天气不怎么好，阴云密布。
Mike is rather shy. He doesn’t talk very much.
麦克很害羞，他不怎么说话。
quite和pretty也可以用在这些句子里。
rather在表示肯定观点时，通常后面跟good/nice，意为“异常的好”，“出奇的好”例如：
These oranges are rather good. Where did you get them?
这些橘子出奇的好啊，你从哪买的？

fairly表示的程度比quite/rather/pretty要弱，例如fairly good意为“还好，还行吧”，举个例子：
My room is fairly big, but I’d prefer a bigger one.
我的房间不算小，但是我想有一个更大的。

quite还可以表示“完全的”，例如：
“Are you sure?” “yes,quite sure.”
“你确定吗？” “是的，我完全确定。”
我们还可以说完全不同：
quite different

I quite agree with you.
not quite则表示“不完全”，举个例子：
They haven’t quite finished eating yet.
他们还没有吃完。
