In a dark room in the Land of Heart, a young warrior readied for battle. Twelve-year-old Raya pulledon gloves. She grabbed her bamboo fighting sticks and tied a dark mask over her face. After a quick pause to pull her hair back, she slipped out into the night.

在龙心城的一个黑暗房间里，一位年轻的战士准备战斗。十二岁的拉雅拉上手套，抄起战斗用的竹棍，用黑色面具遮住面庞。她稍停了一下，迅速把头发绑在脑后，然后潜入了夜色。

Outside, the damp night air felt charged with electricity, though whether it was from the thunderstorm or Raya’s own excitement, it was hard to say. She ran lightly over the tiled roof tops of Heart Fortress. Her slippered feet hardly madea sound as she leapt, cat-like, from building tobuilding, then jumped to the ground.

门外，夜晚潮湿的空气似乎带着电流，不过这很难说是源自雷暴还是拉雅的兴奋之情。她轻盈地跃过龙心堡垒的瓦片屋顶，穿便鞋的脚几乎没发出一点声响。她如同猫一般跃过一幢幢楼房，随后跳到地上。

The first raindrops splashed down, coveringRaya’s tracks as she hurried toward the Chamber ofthe Dragon Gem.

第一滴雨点落下，遮掩了拉雅跑进神龙宝石之殿的足迹。

The fortress sat atop a natural stone arch atthe center of Heart. Beneath a tangle of leaves andvines, Raya found the hidden doorway that led inside. She glanced around, making sure she was unseen, then sneaked in.

这座堡垒坐落于龙心城中心的一座天然石拱上。拉雅在相互缠绕的树叶和藤蔓下找到一条隐藏的门道。她环顾四周，确认无人发现自己后便溜了进去。

Raya crept through the torch-lit tunnel, sliding her hands along the walls. She could feel the shapes of dragons that had been carved there centuries before.

拉雅蹑手蹑脚地穿过点着火把的暗道，手掌划过沿途的墙壁。她能摸到几世纪前雕刻在那儿的龙纹。

Raya paused. Something didn’t feel right. There was a groove in the wall that was deeper than the carvings...

She knelt and examined the damp cobblestones that lined the tunnel floor. One stone was looser than the rest. Carefully, Raya pressed it.

她停了下来，觉得有些不对劲。墙上有个凹槽比浮雕要深......

她蹲下身，仔细检查暗道地板上湿漉漉的鹅卵石。其中有一块比其他的要松。她小心地按了下。

WHOOSH! A net dropped from the ceiling,right on the spot where she was standing. But Rayahad been expecting it. She rolled backward, easily dodging the trap.

只听见呼的一声，一张网从天花板上掉了下来，正好掉在她站的地方。但拉雅早有准备。她一个后滚翻，轻松躲过了陷阱。

“Looks like someone’s trying to be clever,” Raya murmured.

“看来有人想耍小聪明。”她喃喃地说。

Reaching into her satchel , she pulled out a small ball covered in hard scales. When she tappedit with her finger, the ball partly uncurled, revealing two bright black eyes and a cute furry face.

她把手伸进背包，拿出一个裹着坚硬鳞片的小球。她用手指敲了敲它，小球舒展开来，露出两只明亮的黑眼睛和一张毛绒绒的可爱小脸。

She placed her pet on the ground. Tuk Tuk curled back into a scaly ball, then rolled down the tunnel, triggering more traps. One after another, nets dropped from the ceiling. But Tuk Tuk rolled right under neath them. 

她把她的宠物放在地上。突突又蜷成了鳞片小球，顺着暗道向前滚去，触发一个又一个的陷阱。网接二连三地从天花板上坠落，但突突正好都从它们下面滚过去了。

Halfway through, though, Tuk Tuk spied a bug.He waddled after it, forgetting all about his job.

滚到一半时，突突突然看到一只小虫。他摇摇摆摆地走过去，忘了手头的活。

“Tuk Tuk!” Raya whispered. “Come on. Focus.”

Tuk Tuk curled back into a ball and rolled tothe end of the tunnel.

“突突!”拉雅轻声说，“快去，专心点。”突突蜷了回去，滚到了暗道的终点。

Raya crawled under the nets to where he was waiting. She gently picked Tuk Tuk up and pattedhis head. “Hey, bud. That was awesome. Gimme some shell.”

拉雅爬过一张张网，来到了他的等待之处。她温柔地抱起突突，拍了拍他的头，说:“嘿，伙计，刚刚太棒了。击个掌吧。”

Tuk Tuk tried to high-five her, but he lost his balance and rolled onto his back. 

“I gotcha.” Raya turned him upright, then placed him back in her satchel.

突突想跟她击掌，却失去了平衡，仰面朝天翻了过来。

“我来帮你。”拉雅把他翻了过来，又把他放回背包。

-be charged with 充满

charge的核心含义：“负荷、负担” = a load, a burden 

be charged with 也有不同的理解方式：

形容一个人很焦虑：

Her voice is charged with anxiety. 她的声音里充满了焦虑。

说某个人的职责是什么：

She is charged with an important mission. 背负着、被指派做什么

被指控（承担、负担）某种罪责：

The tall man is charged with murder. 那个高个子的男人被指控犯有谋杀罪。

-sit atop 坐落在……上

atop = on the top of sth. 

sit: 位于，一般指的是建筑或者表达地位。

The castle sits atop the hill. 城堡坐落在山顶上。

或者说某种生物、人的职业位于顶端：

It sits atop all of the others. / T-Rex sits atop all the dinosaurs. 它位于其他（同类）的顶端。/ 霸王龙是最厉害的恐龙。

- slide: （在比较光滑的表面上）滑、滑行

slide down the grass 在草地上滑坡

The drawer slides in and out easily. 抽屉很好推拉。

slide（名词）：滑梯。

It feels great to slide down a slide. 滑滑梯的感觉棒极了。

-dodge: 躲避

The superhero was dodging in and out of the crowd. 超级英雄能在人群中穿进穿出，而不伤害到别人

甚至还能dodge the bullets, 躲过子弹。

tax dodging：偷税漏税

考考你，如果想跟某人说，你为什么一整天都不接我电话？

Why have you been dodging my calls all day?

-trigger：引发（极大的后果）

pull the trigger 按下扳机 

引申义：引发、诱发，类似cause，但往往指的是一件小事，引发了极大的后果。

trigger the alarm 触发警报

trigger an avalanche 引发了雪崩

名词用法：the trigger of sth. 某件事的诱因。

随堂笔记

ready for sth. = be ready for sth. 为某事做好准备

glance around 环顾四周

sneak：偷偷溜进某个地方、偷偷做某事。sneak a note to him 给他传纸条

creep / sneak：偷偷行进

a spot = a place

scale：鳞片，鱼鳞

Gimme some shell : 一般我们和别人击掌的时候，在英文里会说 "Gimme 5", 或者"High 5"

Gimme = Give me

tuk tuk的爪子并没有5个指头，所以Raya和它说的是"Gimme some shell (给我一些壳)"，因为tuk tuk浑身都是硬壳。
