[19-year-old Woman Takes off on a 51,000 km Solo Journey]
A Belgian-British teenage pilot took off in western Belgium yesterday on a 51 thousand kilometer journey to become the youngest woman to fly solo around the world. 19-year-old Zara Rutherford plans to fly her Shark Ultralight aircraft over 5 continents and 52 countries and is due to complete the journey on November 4th. Rutherford will need to avoid obstacles and rough weather to stay on route, so she will fly about 5 hours each day, during the daytime. She will also have the benefit of radio and satellite communications onboard, which will allow her to call anyone at anytime. The current record holder is American aviator Shaesta Waiz, who was 30 at the time of her solo flight around the world.
19岁姑娘拉瑟福德从比利时起飞，开启独自驾驶飞机的环球旅程。她将驾驶"鲨鱼"超轻型飞机，飞越52个国家和地区，穿越海洋、沙漠和西伯利亚荒原。期间，拉瑟福德将每次独自飞行最长五、六个小时，借助卫星电话和无线电设备，联系沿途各地空中交管部门。她将避开较大空中枢纽，选择在较小机场降落、过夜并补充燃油，全程没有后援飞机尾随飞行。如果一切顺利，拉瑟福德将于11月4号结束全程，刷新独自驾机环球飞行最年轻女性纪录。此前的纪录保持者，是一名时年30岁的美国籍阿富汗裔女飞行员。
