「Aunty Caroline and Imran went into the garden.」

“Shall we pick some blackberries?” Aunty Caroline asked.

“Yes! Can we walk up Blackberry Hill?” said Imran.

“Good idea,” said Aunty Caroline.

So, we spoke about capital letters. Blackberries are little things that you pick in the garden, it's a berry which is black. They're very sweet and very nice to eat on their own, or you can cook them as well. They grow on a bramble plant which isn't very nice. It's got thorns on it, and they scratch it. I've got lots of blackberries in my garden, you pick them in about August and September.

But they're going up Blackberry Hill. It's the name of the road, it's a place. Therefore, that's why it has a capital letter for “Blackberry”, where before when it says “Shall we pick some blackberries?” you don't need to have a capital letter.

「It was a lovely sunny day. As they walked up Blackberry Hill, they saw butterflies flitting around the flowers. 」

From the top of the hill, they could see cows, sheep and horses. Imran spotted a train in the distance. It looked as small as a toy.

Now, there's just a couple of things here. Flitting. If you flit...it's what butterflies do. They fly to one flower and then fly to another. They're flapping their wings. But we say “they're flitting around”. They're moving around in all different shapes and different ways. It's “flitting around”.

Sometimes we might say at school, “when you sit down, stop flitting around” means you're going from desk to desk, walking around desk to desk to desk to desk. So that's what that word means. It's they’re flitting”, it's telling us what the butterflies are doing.

有时我们在学校可能会说,when you sit down, stop flitting around当你坐下来后,就不要再到处乱跑了”。

And can you see, it says “cows, sheep and horses”. Now, for some of you, you might think that's a bit strange. There is more than one sheep. In fact, if we count them, I think there are one, two, three. So we would think that we would say “There were cows, sheeps and horses”.

But sheep is one of those funny words that doesn't change when there is more than one. One sheep. Three sheep. We don't say sheeps”. We only use sheeps when we're talking about like it was on the sheeps back”. But more than one sheep is still “sheep”. It doesn't change. One of those funny ones.

One sheep(一只羊)。Three sheep(三只羊)。 我们只有在说道例如“it was on the sheep’s back(它在羊的背上)”时,才会用到/ʃiːpz/这样的发音。

「They picked some big, juicy blackberries.」

“Come on,” said Aunty Caroline. “I'll race you home.”

Off they ran, across the field. Imran loved staying with Aunty Caroline.

I think he's having a nice time. And look, big juicy blackberries. So we got a describing word there, an adjective. But we've got more than one. It's good because in our mind, we can think about what these blackberries are like. They're big, but they're not just big, they're big juicy blackberries. I wonder what other words you could think of.

When they got home, Imran and Aunty Caroline made blackberry pie. It was yummy!

At bedtime, Imran looked around for Fergus.

“Aunty,” he asked, have you seen Fergus? I can't find him.”

“Oh, maybe you dropped him in the garden,” said Aunty Caroline. “Let's go and look.”

Aunty Caroline and Imran looked all around the garden, but Fergus wasn't there.

I must have dropped him up on the hill,” said Imran. “We have to go and look for him!”

“We can't go now,” said Aunty Caroline. “It's too late.”

“But I can't go to sleep without him,” Imran said with a frown.

Oh dear. How do you think Imran is feeling? Not very happy.

Aunty Caroline shook her head.

“It will be too dark to find Fergus,” she said. “We’ll lookin the morning.”

So can you see “we’ll”. W,e, apostrophe, l, l. This is one of those contractions, where it should say - if we were writing it fully -we will look in the morning”. But you can shorten it to “we’ll” that's how people speak.

你能看到we'll这个词组,“we’ll。

We often say “we'll go up to the parkrather than “we will go up to the park”. But sometimes we say we will”, “we will do that afterwardsor you could say “we'll do that afterwards”.

我们经常说we'll go up to the park我们去公园,而不是we will go up to the park。但有时我们会说wewill例如,we will do that afterwards我们稍后再做,或者你可以说we'll do that afterwards

「Imran turned to follow Aunty Caroline into the house when he noticed a long piece of white wool in the rose bush. He picked it up.」

“Look,” he cried.I think this wool isfrom a Fergus!”

Aunty Caroline shone her torch to see where the trail of wool went.

Itlooks as if Fergus got caught onthe bush and started to come undone,” she said.

“So the wool will lead us to him,” cried Imran. “Come on!”

Imran and Aunty Caroline followed the wool along the path back up the hill. And there, at the top, was Fergus!

So can you see he's got his torch, a red torch, shining looking for Fergus. I wonder whether you have a torch at home? They're quite useful, aren't they? Most of us nowadays, have a little torch already on our phones.

They're quite handy. If I have to go out in the garden with my dogs late at night, I can see where I am going. So I don't fall down any rabbit holes which we have a lot of in our garden.

「“Oh Fergus!” Imran cried, hugging him. “Look at your poor leg!”

“At least you found him,” said Aunty Caroline. “Now home to bed.”

In bed, Imran snuggled up to Fergus.

I'll never ever lose him again,” he told Aunty Caroline.

When Imran woke up the next morning, he had a big surprise.

What do you think the surprise might be?

“Did you mend Fergus while I was asleep?” he asked Aunty Caroline.

“Yes,” she smiled.

“Oh, thank you,” cried Imran, cuddling Fergus. “He's as good as new!”

Well, that's a nice happy ending to our little story today, isn't it? Poor Imran. There is nothing worse than losing something that you really like. It makes us feel really sad. It's one of those accidents that sometimes happens, and he was lucky to find it.

Andhis Aunty Caroline was very kind, and helped to repair Fergus, to make him like new.
