（许渊冲译）《离思》一共五首，是唐代诗人元稹创作的一组悼亡绝句。名句“曾经沧海难为水，除却巫山不是云”出自第四首，用隐喻的笔法抒写了诗人对亡妻韦丛忠贞不渝的爱情和刻骨的思念。“曾经领略过苍茫的大海，就觉得别处的水相形见绌；曾经领略过巫山的云霭，就觉得别处的云黯然失色。”林语堂在翻译《浮生六记》时，将这句名句译为：It is difficult to be water for one who has seen the great seas,And difficult to be clouds for one who has seen the Yangtze Gorges.
