Warm-up Question: What could you do to waste less food in your life?
Some convenience stores are finding ways to create less food waste. FamilyMart and 7-Eleven have created new smart labels for fresh food products. Around eight hours before these products expire, the prices are discounted automatically by 30-35%. Also, customers can find whereto buy these discounted products through convenience store apps. With this new plan, 206 tons less food was wasted in a month.
These convenience stores are also using new food-ordering systems. These use past sales and the weather to predict how many products to order. This way, stores both satisfy customers’ needs and throw out less food.
