Good morning.
Today, I’ll give you some information regarding two very common signs that a driver of a car will see often. They are ‘yield’ and ‘stop’. You may not know, but, in America, traffic laws are very serious. Police actually patrol (drive around in police cars). They are available to help you or to find anyone breaking a law. We feel very safe with them around. However, if we are driving, we are very careful not to break any of the rules.
Words
‘yield’
‘stop’
Perfect Practice
When driving in America, you must stop completely at a stop sign.
A ‘yield’ sign means that you must allow other cars to go before you go.
You do not have to stop completely at a yield sign.
You must allow other cars to pass first when you come to a yield sign.
The farmer’s yield (harvest) of (产量)corn this year was very good.
The member of the council yielded (放弃给, 转让给) back to the mayor (leader) after he finished his speech.
A stop sign in America is always red.
In Spanish, the word for ‘stop’ is ‘alto.’
In Mexico, a ‘stop sign’ is the same color and shape as it is in America.
These are two very useful words in English. They have similar, but, slightly different meanings. Learn them and use them in your English conversations.
That’s all for today.
Goodbye for now.
I hope you have a wonderful day!
