Little Oriole was shy. She always looked very timid.
The New Yearwas coming. The animals in the forest were going to have a New Year’s party.Many kids would like to join the performance.
Little Peacockwas swinging her graceful body. She was going toperform a dance. Little Lark was singing in herbeautiful voice. She had prepared a melodioussong to sing.
Mother oriolecame up and patted Little Oriole on her back,“Don’t be sad, my child. You can think over before you speak. You can speakwithout stuttering as long as you overcome your timidity. I trust you.”
With Mom’s encouragement and trust, Little Oriole nodded andthought, “I must not disappoint Mom!”
“Today, Iwould like to tell you a story…” Every morning, as soon as she got up, LittleOriole practiced before the mirror.
Days went by,until one day Little Oriole shouted excitedly toher mom, “Mom, I do not stammer any more! I cantell a story perfectly!”
Little Oriolewas still a little timid. Mom encouraged her gently, “It is OK if you think youare not ready. We can practice more.”
Mom’s wordsgave Little Oriole courage. She got back to her room and practiced over andover again.
A few dayslater, Little Oriole came up to her mom and said with courage, “Mom, I’mready!”
Finally theNew Year’s party came. Kids put on their beautiful clothes and came to theparty.
It was LittleOriole’s turn to perform. Looking at the huge crowd gatheredaround the stage, she was still a little nervous. However, Mom’s tender smileand words reminded her, and gave her courage to speak, “Today, I’m going totell you a story…”
Little Orioledid not stammer at all. She had told a touchingstory fluently. After the performance, the audience burstinto thunderous applause. Receiving all the praise, Little Oriolebreathed a sigh of relief.
Mom heldLittle Oriole delightedly and said, “Baby, Iknow you can do it. You are the best!”
“Yep! Mom, Idid it! I will always be the best of myself!” Little Oriole stood up with prideand said.
