今天的演讲的演讲内容是关于教育的，所以宝妈宝爸，或者对教育比较关心的小伙伴儿们可以听听喽~。父母们经常会要求孩子考高分，上好大学，找到好工作等等，纵然这些都是为了孩子好，但是在父母的过度要求，过接保护下，孩子失去了自我选择，自我成长的权利，即孩子没有自我能效。那么应该如何去应对这样的情况呢，我们来听听她是怎么做的吧。
Parentsfeel a kid can’t be successful unless the parents are protecting and preventingat every turn, and micromanaging every moment, and steering[1]their kids towards prestigious colleges and careers. But kids are breathless, brittle[2] and alittle burned out[3] under high rates of anxiety and depression.
Withour overhelp, overprotection and overdirection and hand-holding[4], wedeprive[5]our kids of the chance to build self-efficacy[6], which is a reallyfundamental tenet[7] of the human psyche[8]. Self-efficacy is built when one seesthat one’s own actions lead to outcomes, not one’s parents actions on one’sbehalf.
Weshould be less concerned about the specific set of colleges they might be ableto apply to, and far more concerned that they have the habits, the mindset[9], theskill set, the wellness[10], to be successful wherever they go.
[1] steer [[stɪr]] v. 控制，引导；驾驶
He helps to steer her in the new direction when she wasconfused.
当她迷茫困惑时，他帮助引导出新的方向。
[2] brittle [['brɪtl]] adj. 易碎的，脆弱的；易生气的
The system is so brittlethat it can’t be tested in pressure.
这个系统过于脆弱，以至于都不能通过压力测试。
[3] be burned out v.筋疲力尽
I am burned out these days because of the heavy workload.
这两天工作压力太大，我已经筋疲力尽了。
[4] hand-holding 手持的，手把手的，牵手
Hand holing is one of the most intimate ways to connect withone another.
牵手是最亲密的联络感情的方法之一。
[5] deprive [dɪ'praɪv] vt. 使丧失，剥夺
deprive sb. of sth. 剥夺某人的东西
Kids shouldn’t be deprived of education.
孩子不能被剥夺受教育的权利。
[6] self-efficacy 自我能效
efficacy ['ɛfɪkəsi] n. 功效，效力
The evaluation of safetyand efficacy of new medicine is necessary.
评估药物的安全性和功效是非常必要的。
[7] tenet ['tɛnɪt] n. 原则；信条；教义
All employees should know the basic tenet of management oftheir company.
所有员工都要了解公司的基本管理宗旨。
[8] psyche ['saɪki] n. 灵魂；心智
We can learn to rebuild our psyche by perceiving and givinglove.
我们可以通过感受和给予爱来学习重建我们的精神世界。
[9] mindset ['maɪndsɛt] n.心态；思维；精神状态
It’s difficult for them to understand the mindset of othercountries’ peole.
对他们来说，很难理解其他国家人民的思维方式。
[10] wellness ['welnəs] n.健康
wellbeing n.幸福；福利
His lifelong goal is the pursuit of wellness.
他的终身目标是追求身心健康。
