A group of frogs were travelling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the words and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their strength. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs accepted what the other frogs were sayings and gave up. He fell down and died.
一群青蛙在林间旅行，其中两只掉进了深坑里。其他青蛙看到坑那么深，便对那两只青蛙说，他们死定了。这两只青蛙不理睬这些话，竭尽全力试图跳出深坑。其他青蛙不断地告诉他们停下来，说不管怎样他们都死定了。最后，其中一只青蛙相信了别的青蛙说的话，就放弃了，跌倒后便死了。
The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs shouted at him to stop the efforts and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, “Did you not hear us?” The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the whole time.
剩下的一只青蛙继续拼命地跳。那群青蛙再一次冲他叫喊，让他不要白费力气，就直接等死吧。他更加使劲地跳，最后跳出了坑。当他跳出来的时候，其他青蛙说：“难道你没有听见我们的话吗？”那只青蛙解释说，他是聋子。他以为他们一直在鼓励他。
There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift him up and help him make it through the day. Yet a destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill him.
So, be cautious about what we say. Speak life to those who cross our paths. The power of words is great. It is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Special is the individual who will take the time to encourage another.
言语有左右生死的力量。对于身处困境的人，一句鼓励的话能够使他备受鼓舞，帮助他战胜困难，而一句消极的话则能够把他置于死地。要留神我们所讲的话，对我们遇见的人，说句鼓励的话。话语的力量是强大的。有时很难理解，一句鼓励的话能够产生如此强大的作用。耐心鼓励别人的人乃可敬之人。
