Hello everyone,welcome to English Panorama.This is Jennifer.It’s really nice to see you again after a summer vacation.And the topic for today is one kind of the supernatural.
好久不见啦，开学也已经快一个月了，很高兴能和大家在这里再次相遇。今天要和大家聊的是一种超自然生物。不知道大家是否有了解过超自然生物，字典中对the supernatural这个词的解释是events,forces or powers that cannot be explained by the laws of science and that seem to involve gods or magic,简单来说就是不能用科学来解释的一切事物。那我要介绍的这种超自然生物算是比较被大家所熟知的一种了，接下来，我们就一起来看一看吧。
There is a being from folklore,their eyes can shift color,they are strong and powerful,they move fast,and they are immortal.
And the key feature of them is that they feed on blood.
We call them vampires.
民间传说中有这样的一种生物，他们的眼睛可以变换颜色，他们强壮有力，速度惊人，并且他们是永生的。而他们最重要的特征就是他们靠吸食血液来维持生命。我们称他们为——吸血鬼。
The notion of vampirism has existed for millennia. Cultures such as the Mesopotamians, Hebrews, Ancient Greeks, and Romans had tales of demons and spirits which are considered precursors to modern vampires. Despite the occurrence of vampire-like creatures in these ancient civilizations, the folklore for the entity known today as the vampire originates almost exclusively from early 18th-century southeastern Europe, when verbal traditions of many ethnic groups of the region were recorded and published. In most cases, vampires are revenants of evil beings, suicide victims, or witches, but they can also be created by a malevolent spirit possessing a corpse or by being bitten by a vampire. Belief in such legends became so pervasive that in some areas it caused mass hysteria and even public executions of people believed to be vampires.
吸血鬼的概念早在几千年以前就出现了。在美索不达米亚、希伯来、古希腊以及罗马的文化中曾出现过关于恶魔和灵魂的传说，这些现在被认为是吸血鬼的前身。不过，尽管这些类似于吸血鬼的生物出现在了早期文明中，如今我们所熟知的那些关于吸血鬼存在的民间传说，大多都起源于18世纪前期的东南欧，因为当时这个地区许多族群口头流传的传说被记录并出版了。在这些传说中，吸血鬼大部分是邪恶的人、自杀者或是女巫的亡魂，但也有由恶灵支配尸体和人类被吸血鬼而变成的吸血鬼。大家对这些传说的普遍相信，导致一些地区的人们变得歇斯底里，甚至一些被认为是吸血鬼的人被公开处以死刑。
There are numerous novels and movies about vampires,and the most well known three might be Twilight,The Vampire Diaries,and Interview With The Vampire.
Though they are all about vampires,the vampires they describe are little different from each other，for there is no firmly established definition of vampire.
如今，吸血鬼以完全不同的形象大量出现于小说和电影当中，其中最著名的三个或许就是《暮光之城》，《吸血鬼日记》以及《夜访吸血鬼》了。由于一直以来对吸血鬼都没有一个明确的定义，所以虽然它们都是以吸血鬼为主题的，但是它们所描述的吸血鬼却不完全相同。
Everyone in the Cullens,a vampire family in Twilight,have their own abilities.For example,the main character Edward can read people’s minds.
(--Can the rest of your family read people’s minds like you can?
--No.That’s just me.But Alice can see the future. )
Cullen是《暮光之城》中的一个吸血鬼家族，这个家族中的每一个人都有自己的独特之处，比如男主角Edward就有读心术。而他的妹妹Alice则可以预见未来。
And sunshine has different influence on vampires in different pieces of work.
For vampires from Twilight,sunlight will just make them looks like diamonds.That’s the reason why they chose to live in “a small town named Forks exists under a near-constant cover of clouds”.
But for vampires from The Vampires Diaries,sunlight is something that get them burnt to ashes.
阳光对吸血鬼们的作用也不尽相同。对于《暮光之城》中的吸血鬼来说，阳光会让他们变得像钻石一样闪闪发光，这也是他们选择住在一个几乎终年阴云笼罩的小镇的原因。但对于《吸血鬼日记》中的吸血鬼来说，阳光则会让他们燃为灰烬。
而相较于《暮光之城》中获得吸血鬼的毒素就能变成吸血鬼，《吸血鬼日记》和《夜访吸血鬼》中从人类转化为吸血鬼的过程就要复杂得多。
(--Will these bites turn me into a vampire?
--It’s more complicated than that.You’d feed on my blood,then die,then feed on a human’s,whole ordeal.)
这些吸血鬼有许多的不同之处，但他们无一例外都拥有了永生的机会。一直不乏因此羡慕吸血鬼的人，甚至在搜索引擎中输入“吸血鬼”时，会看到有人在寻找变成吸血鬼的方法，搜索引擎也会问你，你搜索这个词是否是因为想要成为吸血鬼。
然而成为一个吸血鬼，获得永生真的是一件令人向往的事情吗？或许不同的吸血鬼会有不同的答案吧，《暮光之城》中的Bella会觉得能与Edward像童话故事里的公主与王子一样“从此幸福地生活在一起”是幸福的；但对于《夜访吸血鬼》中的Louis来说，变成吸血鬼可能是他痛苦的延续，这也是一个令他后悔的决定。
(That morning,I was not yet a vampire and I saw my last sunrise.I remember it completely and yet I can’t recall any sunrise before it.I watched the whole magnificence of the dawn for the last time as if it were the first.And then I said farewell to sunlight and set out to become what I became.)
在获得永生的同时，我们“一辈子一定要去看一次”的日出，成了他们“要是能再看一次就好”的日出。他们的生活或许令人羡慕，但也或许和我们一样艰难。
不过，不管是人类还是吸血鬼，我们都还是要学习的，接下来，就到了我们学习的时候：
