Comedian pulls prank on Trump

A comedian has successfully pulled a prank on the US president with a fake phone call, raising concerns that White House security had not been up to par. John Melendez, a radio show personality, said he had called Trump while the president was traveling to Washington DC on board Air Force One. 
一名喜剧演员成功实施了对美国总统特朗普的恶作剧，引发了关于白宫安保未能达标的担忧。电台节目名人约翰.梅伦德斯称，他在特朗普乘坐"空军一号"专机飞往华盛顿特区的途中打通了他的电话。

The bizarre incident was widely reported Friday. In an audio recording of the calls released Thursday, Melendez called up the White House and managed to convince the operator that he was an assistant for Senator Robert Menendez, and that the lawmaker needed to speak to Trump on a "pressing" issue.

After several exchanges, Melendez was finally able to reach Trump and carried a five-minute conversation with Trump on issues such as immigration reform and options to fill a vacancy at the Supreme Court.

World's first space nation

Asgardia, a proposed "space nation", inaugurated its first head of state during a ceremony at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria, which was attended by diplomats, researchers, engineers and legal experts from around the world.

The new head of nation, Igor Ashurbeyli - a Russian scientist, billionaire and philanthropist - took an oath of office during an event with no shortage of pomp and circumstance. He went on to unveil ambitious goals for the first space nation: notably, to have permanently inhabited space stations in low Earth orbit and stationary settlements on the moon within the next 25 years. 
新元首伊戈尔.阿舒尔贝利是俄罗斯科学家、富豪和慈善家，他在盛大而隆重的仪式上宣誓就职。他还宣布了首个太空国家的宏伟目标：25年内要在地球近地轨道建立永久有人居住的太空站，在月球上建成固定定居点。

"We have established all branches of a nation," Ashurbeyli said in a speech at the ceremony. "I can declare that Asgardia has been born." Asgardia - named after Asgard, a sky city in Norse mythology which was said to house the gods - was founded by Ashurbeyli and several prominent space experts in October 2016.

App identifies baby's cries

Babies don't come with a manual, but a new app is helping to take some of the guesswork out of their cries. The app is the brainchild of a doctor at the UCLA along with a team of volunteers.

Known as ChatterBaby, the free app was initially created to help deaf parents figure out what their child needs. But even people with full hearing have trouble differentiating between whether junior's hungry, fussy or in pain.

The team developed an algorithm that identified the characteristics of each type of cry, like changes in pitch, frequency and pauses. Using this information, the algorithms nearly correctly identified features of cries. The creator hopes this app will also help users identify autism in their children earlier.

A return to national service

The French government has introduced a plan to bring back national service for all 16-year-olds. The new national service will be divided into two distinct phases. The first phase is a mandatory one-month placement with a focus on civic culture, which the government says will "enable young people to create new relationships and develop their role in society". 
法国政府近日推出了一项计划，重新将所有16岁青年都纳入国民服役。新国民服役计划将分为两个不同阶段。第一阶段是为期一个月的义务工作，与公民文化相关。法国政府称，这将"使年轻人结交新朋友，适应社会"。

This includes activities such as charity work, voluntary teaching, or military preparation with the police, fire service or army. The second phase is a voluntary placement of at least three months and up to a year, in which young people will be encouraged to serve "in an area linked to defense and security" - but again, they could opt to carry out volunteer work linked to heritage, the environment or social care.
