Warm-up Question: What kind of job do people expect you to have in the future?
Everyone expected Jane to be a lady-in-waiting, but Jane wanted to be a knight. Every day, she saw the knights practicing their fighting.
Jane told her mother about her wish, but she didn’t agree. “You could be a lady-in-waiting to the Queen, like me!” Jane’s mother said. She told her father, but he said, “Only boys can become knights.” She told the King, but he didn’t listen. She told the Prince. He just laughed.
Jane told the knights. They put armor on her and put her on a straw horse. They laughed until they saw Jane cry. They weren’t trying to be mean.
